1913-1920

1913	The Village President and Board of Trustees salaries increased to $1 per meeting, plus .50 for extra meetings. The Village Clerk received $50 per year.
1915	A diphtheria case was reported at the Swanson residence on South West Street. The first case of Typhoid Fever (Ray Hartman) was reported. Many persons were given notices to trim hedges due to "overhang" on sidewalks. Village residents wanted sign boards removed from the corner of Hardin and Vandalia. 25 policeman's stars, made especially for the Village, were purchased. Several persons were arrested and fined $3 for riding bicycles on the sidewalk.
1916	A petition from Frank Smith requested permission to stage a Sunday and week day ball game at the South Side Driving Club. "Automobile of the Rail", used to carry passengers to and from the Cemetery, was running beyond the speed limit.
1917	Caldwell Engineering of Jacksonville was paid $80 to make a topographic map of the Village. An Ordinance Committee was appointed to handle the speed of cars, bicycles, or any vehicle that exceeded 15 miles per hour. "Waverly" Road was changed to "West Vandalia" Road. "Buffe Avenue" was changed to "South Clay". "Jones Avenue" was changed to "South East" Street. Caldwell Engineering was called to a meeting to discuss proposed sewers. Thomas Ranson was appointed Fire Chief. The firemen were to be notified of a fire through two telephone companies. A house-to-house visit would notify each household to telephone a fire to the phone company. Printed notices giving the names of the Chief and Firemen with their residence and telephone numbers were left in every household. Ladders and other equipment are to be placed about the Village in the most acceptable locations.
1919	A proposed ball park would be located on Vandalia Road, near the C & A Railroad tracks. It would be 300 feet square with 8 feet closed board fences and a grandstand. The park will be permanent.
1920	The DeVore fire which occurred was extinguished by Jacksonville Fire Department (which volunteered to do so). The Village Clerk reported a case of measles at the home of J.E. Young on South Main Street and one case of Scarlet Fever at the home of H. DeVore. Both houses had been properly placarded. The Jacksonville Chatauqua was to be held at Nichols Park. The Village decided to place street signs throughout the Village.
