With the political season upon us here is a friendly reminder that portable or temporary signs must follow city guidelines. Signs, regardless of what they are announcing or what political endorsement they are making, cannot be placed in any city or state rights-of-way, including sidewalk to street locations and any boulevards, islands, ditches or center curbs. They must be located on private property and only one sign is allowed for any property or lot. Signs can’t be placed on utility, light or street sign poles and must not hamper or block vision at driveways or intersections. Only city sponsored events can be advertised through signs in the downtown square area. The signs must be removed after the event. Questions can be directed to the Village of South Jacksonville Codes Department at 217-245-4803.
